The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. Vehicle has never been subjected to off road conditions. Failure is the state or condition of not meeting a desirable or intended objective, and may be viewed as the opposite of success. Local expert stated, by looking at the wear pattern, that it was set up incorrectly backlash, spacing, etc. There are over 2000 complaints online and over 10000 complaints with Toyota alone. Yet no one gives me an answer. Had trouble getting warranty coverage.
The fire was visible from the blinker arm hole. I eliminated a majority of warranty complaints by using synthetics. If wheel balance weights are installed in an incorrect location, there is a possibility that the outer brake tube could be damaged due to interference with the balance weight, and brake fluid could leak from the damaged tube. I don't know how Tony Gwen ever endorsed this dealership. This is extremely dangerous for pedestrian crossing in front of the car. The majority of the work has been in the under-belly of the vehicle.
The vehicle was not repaired. I guess common problem on a so called manual 4x4 shifter. Fluid was flushed out and replaced. Visibility is significantly limited by the small windows and wide roof pillars. Happened in middle of snow storm. To keep it safe, bring your truck to your mechanic for a regular mechanical inspection at least once a year. If you do your oil changes regularly and use good quality oil, your engine will be in good shape longer.
Fix was to slam it into gear 15-20 times, which fixed the prob. Cons: Rear visibility, rear seat access and comfort, rear seats don't fold flat, early models require premium gasoline. Dashboard lite up like a christmas tree. The fire department extinguished the fire and a police report was filed. Toyota knew that the rear ring and pinion gear were defective due to over treating at the factory, but failed to notify any owners of Fj cruisers and to issue a recall for that particular problem.

The vehicle engine rpm will not go below 12-1800rpm when the vehicle is moving unless the speed is somewhere below 5mph. I'd say it does this about half the time.
I don't speed or drive poorly, and my driving record is completely clean. Forums show many times this fails, the transmission will fail as people drive it with it slipping. A huge number of owners on the fj cruise forums have pointed out the issue. This time the pinion broke inside the housing. Handling is clumsy, disconcerting at its limits and ride quality is jittery. They replaced a broken transmission with one that was prone to fail again.

They decided to do a complete review although I see no tool makes they told me I need to replace my rear differential, and told me as if they just knew it was an issue. Minor issue considering the time vehicle is driven off road. You won't have troubles using the heater controls even wearing thick gloves - the control knobs are really large. Dealer initially denied it was a problem, then tried to deny warranty work, then warrantied it after much pressure. I too have observed this in other gears, but for some reason it seems the worst in a 2 to 3 upshift. It is not only costly it is very dangerous. I then did my research and have learned that numerous drivers of the 2007 Fj cruiser are experiencing the same issue, and now that the car has over 100,000 miles on it, it is no longer covered under warranty.
At 20mph, for instance driving in a school zone, the throttle cannot be set to maintain a steady speed. I have completed all regularly scheduled maintenance the entire almost 9 years that I've owned the vehicle and have never had any issues. Then the night mare began. There is no engine braking available at any speed above 5mph. Late model modified Toyota such as Fj cruiser run at double the weight, triple the horsepower, and much larger tires to top it off. Dealer was originally told to replace more. There is a number of components that also need regular fluid changes or service: front and rear differential, transfer case, transmission, drive shafts, etc.
