. That same morning, Alexander attends school where he experiences another series of mishaps, such as accidentally setting fire to his crush, Becky Gibson's, notebook as well as finding out that his friends, including Becky, and even his best friend, Paul, will all be attending the birthday party of Philip Parker Lincoln Melcher instead of his, due to Philip's expensive party entertainment and popularity. A sub-plot features Isak, a local Jewish merchant who is the grandmother's lover and whose odd household becomes the children's refuge. Coming out of tiny Macedonia today part of Greece , Alexander led his armies against the mighty Persian Empire, drove west to Egypt, and finally made his way east to India. The film dramatizes and resolves those conflicts. Anthony is trying to earn his driver's license so he can drive his bitter girlfriend, Celia, to the prom; Emily is rehearsing for the title role in her school play; Kelly is working for a publication company that is publishing a new children's book which will promote her to vice president of the company; and Ben, who has been unemployed for seven months, has landed a job interview as a game designer for a video game company.
After Oscar's early death, his widow marries the bishop and moves with her children to his austere and forbidding chancery. Alexander's day begins with gum stuck in his hair, followed by more calamities. The title characters are children in the exuberant and colorful Ekdahl household in a Swedish town early in the twentieth century. She is faced with another uneventful summer until she discovers a lost pinto pony named Checkers who has jumped out of his paddock. In other words, the world we know today might never have been if not for Alexander's bloody, yet unifying, conquest. That night, Alexander puts a candle on a sundae and wishes that everyone in his family would experience what he is going through.
Alexander's conquests paved the way for the spread of Greek culture facilitating the spread of Christianity centuries later , and removed many of the obstacles that might have prevented the expansion of the Roman Empire. Although Moondance returns the horse to his rightful owner, the gruff and mysterious Dante Longpre, she is convinced that Checkers is a champion jumper in disguise and is determined to help him realize his full potential. Though he finds little sympathy from his family and begins to wonder if bad things only happen to him, his mom, dad, brother, and sister all find themselves living through their own terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. This film will concentrate on those eight years of battles, as well as his relationship with his boyhood friend and battle mate, Hephaestion. Oscar's mother and brother are its chief patrons.
The curiously named, Moondance Alexander is a spirited teen living with her eccentric mother. Their parents, Oscar and Emilie, are the director and the leading lady of the local theatre company. The children are immediately miserable. . . . .
